North Carolina’s Emerging Star DEVN Releases Debut EP ‘St. Luke St’

Charlotte, North Carolina newcomer DEVN introduces his singular sound on his long-awaited debut EP St. Luke St, out now on all digital streaming platforms via Dho Knows Enterprises/Soulspazm. A masterwork of contemporary R&B and Trap Soul infused with Afrobeats and Pop Rap, St. Luke St. is largely inspired by DEVN’s romantic experiences during his formative years, examining love as a novelty through the lens of earned wisdom. Featuring the singles “Foreva“, “I Need That“, and “Freak Freak“, the EP’s lyrics were freestyled, yet inspired by general ideas and real life experiences, which DEVN has extensively journaled about over the years.

‘St. Luke’ is the name of the street I grew up on. It’s where everything started. I learned so much growing up here. I recorded and produced my first song at a neighbor’s house, and met my first girlfriend across the street from my grandmother’s house, which gave me an idea of what ‘love’ felt like.  These experiences in life helped shape this project.” – DEVN

Born Devin Christopher Mitchell, singer, rapper, producer, and multi-instrumentalist DEVN seamlessly blends contemporary R&B, Pop Rap, and Trap Soul. His Charlotte, North Carolina roots have had a profound impact on his music career to date. Starting in the church choir where he learned to play piano, DEVN eventually got the opportunity to record music in a neighbor’s garage. He soon went on to Charlotte’s New Life Arts Middle School where he was mentored by Hall of Fame Gospel singer and pastor John P Kee. With his proven talent and growing track record, DEVN earned his way into the prestigious Northwest School of The Arts for high school.

Now, with years of recording and life experience, DEVN is poised to make his long-awaited debut with his self-engineered EP, due out summer of 2021. The project is a rumination about love and romantic experiences during his formative years. While his sound might be a hodgepodge of auto-tune forefathers like T-Pain, melodic rappers like Juice WRLD, newer R&B luminaries like dvsn, and Pop icons like The Weeknd, DEVN’s identity as an artist is largely inspired by the rawness and authenticity of ’60s and ‘70s Soul music and early 2000s era Neo-Soul.
