“Lovin’ It” features poised rapping from Homeboy Sandman over Aesop Rock’s skilfully constructed production. “Lovin’ It” was recorded with GAM at GAMBODIA in May 2022.Homeboy Sandman details the inspiration behind the new song, “I love not having any idea about all the ridiculous garbage people are talking about. I love knowing that no human being has any control over my life except for me. I love not being afraid. I love being able to think. I love being free. I’m lovin’ it.” The artwork was done by globally recognized first generation graffiti artist from NYC’s lower east side Al Diaz, who is best known for his collaboration on SAMO© with Jean-Michel Basquiat.

On Anjelitu, Homeboy Sandman demonstrates his virtuosic lyrical ability with Aesop Rock behind the boards. The derivation of the title is a combination of Sand’s real name, Angel, and taijitu. He explains,

“My mother, and lots of my relatives, used to call me “Angelito.” Little Angel. The taijitu is the symbol for yin and yang. Opposites that make a whole. Given the dualistic/duelistic nature of the songs on the record, put it all together and what do you get, Anjelitu.”

Receiving critical praise from Bandcamp, Stereogum, OkayPlayer, PopMatters, and more, Anjelitu showcases Homeboy Sandman and Aesop Rock’s undeniable chemistry. The duo who also collaborate under the pseudonym Lice have connected for numerous projects dating back to 2015. “Lice has long since calibrated the symbiosis spans states,” Homeboy Sandman declares. The most recent Lice collab “Ask Anyone,” a tribute to the late MF Doom, was included in VIBE’s top 5 most underrated songs of 2021.

The first bonus single “Lovin’ It” is out now. Anjelitu Deluxe will be available on all digital platforms July 29th. Homeboy Sandman concludes, “Long live Aesop Rock. Honored to have Al Diaz on the art he’s an icon.” Homeboy Sandman will embark on a co-headlining tour with Deca this August, full list of dates available here.
