After a strong start to the year, lpswich, UK artist Parris Robbo is tying up the first chapter of 2021 with a 5-track EP titled ‘A Dark Positivity.’ The project serves as an antithesis to sugar coated positivity as well as the alternative of negative subject matter that offers no potentioal solutions or clarifying perspectives.
Determined to hit the ground running this year, Parris released a Youtube-only freestyle on January 1st via Switchside TV which would later be played by DJ Target on 1Xtra at the suggestion of his guest Piers James. February and April saw the release of Fail Thoughts and Better Than Bitter respectively, which garnered attention from The Pit LDN amongst others and received airplay on Reprezent, Westside Radio, and BBC Radio 6 as well as receiving independent playlist support across Spotify.
With a sound that’s been likened to ‘Yeezus’ era Kanye West, Parris is aware of the divisive nature of pushing boundaries as he does with the production and sonic qualities on ‘A Dark Positivity,’ as well as his often blunt approach to lyricism. For those seeking something familiar this one is best skipped , but those open to experimental sounds with brutally honest worldviews may just stumble upon their new favorite artist.
