Chicago-based singer-songwriter Terry Blade showcases his versatility with his brand new Hip Hop single “Gibberish.” Blade’s Light-Hearted “Gibberish” Pays Homage to Old School Hip Hop and Funk. The music video is perfect depiction of how you will react when listening to the song with its upbeat danceable rhythm complemented by Blade’s flow.
Terry Blade is a singer-songwriter whose work we’ve come to love for its biting lyrics, heavy subject matter, melancholic texture and sincere evocative tone. Indeed, the singer-songwriter recently marked Black History Month by releasing his 19-track epic American Descendant of Slavery, The Album.
The album earned a Gold Award from the 2021 AVA Digital Awards for Original Music in an Audio Production, and on March 1st, the Archives of African-American Music and Culture included the album among its “February 2021 Black Music Releases of Note” right alongside releases by The Weeknd, Kelly Rowland and Bob Marley & The Wailers.
Though the album has acquainted listeners with Terry’s serious side, his latest single “Gibberish” introduces them to his colorful, lighthearted fun nature. From the punch of old-school rap, down to the deep percussive cadence of funk, “Gibberish” is a blast of energy, and will make listeners want to dance. With subtle nods to James Brown, Janelle Monae and Pharrell Williams, Terry’s vocals are distinctive and effortless, depicting his one-of-a-kind character and vibe.
The song is loaded with passion and intensity, and for 2 minutes and 22 seconds, “Gibberish” pays proper homage to funk and old-school hip hop. As one member of the record label, publisher and creative collective The Wave Cache put it, “the bars and flow is unquestionably high quality. Dope wordplay and style overall. The old-school funk influenced vibe is well executed.”
