Putting his hometown on the map with his frank lyricism and heavy Lone Star State drawl, Wacotron is one of Texas’s most exciting rappers. Now, he shares Out The Blue, the highly-anticipated follow-up mixtape to his critically acclaimed 2021 project Smokin Texas. Highlighted by heavy trap production from Southside & 808 Mafia, among others, the 11-track effort establishes Wacotron’s status as the man in his city. He shares harrowing tales about life on the streets of Waco, weaving pearls of street wisdom and sly turns-of-phrase.
Among project highlights are the dark Texas club anthem “Let Em Know,” as well as the heartfelt, guitar-laden “The Blues,” which finds the street veteran taking his sound in a new direction as he reckons with his past. Featuring appearances from Freebandz rapper Doe Boy and Atlanta mainstay Derez D’Shon and additional production from superstar artist/producer Marshmello, Out The Blue is available everywhere via Pick Six Records/808 Mafia.
Along with the new mixtape, Wacotron shares the video for “Game Time,” a highlight from the project produced by Project X of 808 Mafia. On top of a hauntingly hypnotic trap instrumental, Wacotron unleashes bar after bar as he warns his opps not to cross him: “I’m quarterback and I’m picking the blitz up,” he spits. In the DJ Black Messiah-directed video, Wacotron ignores ‘no trespassing’ signs as he proves he runs the streets of his hometown.
With Out The Blue, Wacotron plans to build on the success of his debut 2021 mixtape Smokin’ Texas, which received praise from Complex, HipHopDX, DJ Booth, and more. He hasn’t been entirely quiet over the past year, though, as he’s made waves in the rap game with singles like “Raw” and “Free Mason” (each with over 4 million streams on Spotify). The Waco, TX native has also been an ambassador for central Texas rap, working alongside other Waco risers and boosting their careers while he becomes a star in his own right.
With the release of his sophomore project Out The Blue, Wacotron proves he’s an artist to watch in the bustling Texas rap scene. Stay tuned for much more from the young rapper in the near future.
