DC The Don Takes It Back to High School with “PSA”

PSA by DC The Don - Artwork

Mixing soaring melodies and rapidfire raps, Milwaukee-born DC The Don is a versatile artist with wide-ranging tastes to match. Preparing for the imminent release of his album My Own Worst Enemy, DC shares PSA,” a new song and video. Floating atop triumphant horns and plinking, xylophone-esque synths, DC flexes his flow fortitude on “PSA,” stuffing as many syllables as he can between 808 thumps and splashing snares. Clocking in at a brisk 87 seconds, the song still packs a creative punch, mixing DC’s fast flows with melodic turns, longing lyrics, and pugilistic punchlines. In the video, DC flashes back to high school, where he congregates with his OUTLAW crew at lunch, study hall, and the hallways after class. The video focuses on DC’s sensitive RAG3 KIDD persona, but the video makes clear that his more aggressive side, DONNY, is always lurking within.

Following in the wake of recent single Arrest Me,” “PSA” is the latest video to debut from My Own Worst Enemy, DC’s next project, due for an imminent arrival. Following up 2020’s successful Come As You AreMy Own Worst Enemy both expands and refines DC’s sound, drawing inspiration from disparate genres like, emo, trap, and hyperpop to create a launching pad for the artist’s virtuosic vocals. With production by heavy-hitters like JetsonMadeStarboySupah MarioTrademarkCharlie HeatAstroboy, and more, who deliver DC some of their most adventurous beats, the album percolates with the energy of a young artist testing the limits of what he’s capable of accomplishing–and having fun while doing it. The album dramatizes DC’s internal conflict as a battle between two distinct personalities: RAG3 KIDD, who represents the artist’s more wholesome and romantic side, and DONNY, a demonic, red-haired spitter who emerges on the album’s harder-edged beats. My Own Worst Enemy arrives on February 18th via Rostrum Records.

Whoever emerges on top the battle between DONNY and RAG3 KIDD (and by the looks of the MOWE album trailer, RAG3 KIDD looks to be in a bit of a hole), the true winner will be DC’s loyal legion of fans. With My Own Worst Enemy, DC looks poised to expand his fanbase and prove that he’s one of the most versatile artists working.
