Derrius Logan has been forging his own path and a journey of self discovery with his music. Leaning on different blends and sounds within hip-hop and chilled R&B, and was a pioneer of a whole new exploration of genre named ‘LoverBoy Trap’, and during the process of creating an album that sonically reflects this new found sound, Drake then coincidently came to the fore a year later with the exact same named genre and premise. 

This then left Derrius to his own devices even more and to once again innovate and create something he can resonate and most importantly, get his already invested audiences to relate with too. After success on hit shows such as HBC and featuring on AirBnB advertisements with his uniquely potent releases to date, it instilled a motivation in Logan like no other. The result is a staggering amount of material in the form of multiple albums, the first being the aptly titled ‘Fuckboy Free’.

In what could be a message to other creatives aforementioned, the lead single also titled ‘Fuckboy Free’ is another smooth concoction of suave R&B, with Logan’s auto tuned so eloquently sits above the minimalist yet crisp production, with a playful bass line and synths, makes for a hugely catchy and addictive track that you will have on repeat with ease.

Logan wanted to stick to the roots of his genre that he so profoundly created, and has used that as a basis to work on and the result is mightily impressive. There is a lot to come from Derrius Logan in 2022, ‘FuckBoy Free’ is only the beginning.

Speaking more on the meaning behind ‘FuckBoy Free’, Derrius explains:

“FuckBoy Free is a love song to women that know their worth. So many FuckBoy’s in the world posing men women should be interested in, all to fuck, and disappear. This song is about me loving a woman who knows the difference.”
